Synopsis: The Office
Professions 2000+ program is designed to develop information and people
managers as the lifeblood of every organization. The program graduates people who can apply finely tuned
technical, administrative, and human relations’ skills within organizations to
satisfy the increased demands of the changing business world.
I.
Duration
The Office Professions 2000+
program is intended for adult learners attending classes on a full-time basis.
The program is intensive with regularly
scheduled classes and self-paced course work encompassing 390 hours over 12
weeks (1 semester). Participants should plan to spend approximately 32 hours
per week in class and 6 – 10 hours per week in home study.

Objectives
The
program focuses on the following three major skill-sets:
Office Administration
·
How
to be an efficient office professional - organizing work, managing time,
maintaining desirable attitudes, and setting priorities.
·
How
to rely on modern office equipment - computers, copiers, facsimile machines,
transcribing equipment - for effective job performance.
·
How
to use published sources and databases for finding facts
·
Information
management - filing procedures, filing rules, supplies, equipment, retention,
storage, and retrieval.
Human Relations
·
Procedures
and guidelines for dealing with people - face to face in the office or in
meetings and over the telephone - and for making appointments and travel
arrangements.
·
Cues
to recognize different personality styles, and style shifting from one style to
another to communicate clearly and resolve conflicts to enhance relationships.
·
How
to maintain professionalism and ethics in the workplace to advance career
goals.
·
Strategies
for carrying out responsibilities as a supervisor.
Information Technology
·
Advanced
proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications with emphasis on Word 2000 and
Excel 2000 to the MOUS Expert User level; Access 2000, PowerPoint 2000,
Outlook 2000 and Publisher 2000.
Systems operate in the Windows 98 environment.
·
Electronic
office concepts such as sending and receiving e-mail; using the Internet,
electronic calendar, local area networks, voice mail, on-line databases,
computer assisted retrieval, and desktop publishing; assisting with
teleconferencing; managing files with a computer; and caring for and storing
magnetic media.
·
Procedures
for preparing and processing written communications - transcribing, composing
letters, processing incoming and outgoing mail, and preparing reports.
·
Plan and create written communication documents for the
business environment

Each week

Office Administration and Personal Development topics.
