Program Synopsis & Outline

 

 

Synopsis:   The Bookkeeping for Business certificate program consists of two modules designed to develop an in-depth understanding of accounting principles and concepts, as well as a broader appreciation of how business decisions are made.  The modules may be taken together or separate to suit your specific needs and interests. The courses range from 1 to 3 weeks in length with approximately 25 hours each week. 

 

 

I.                   Module 1

 

Basic Bookkeeping

This module covers the basics of accounting principles and concepts and focuses on manual and computerized bookkeeping techniques.  Upon completion of this module you will understand why entries are posted the way they are and how to use Simply Accounting.

II.                Module 2

 

Bookkeeping Career Supplements

This module is designed to enhance the basics of accounting principles and concepts.  It is intended to increase your diversity in software programs other than Simply Accounting.  This is a great add-on program for employed bookkeepers to transition into self-employment.

III.             Duration

 

The Bookkeeping for Business program is intended for adult learners attending classes on a full-time basis.  Classes run from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm Monday through Friday.

 

Each module is intensive with regularly scheduled classes and self-paced course work encompassing 150 hours over 6 weeks. Participants should plan to spend approximately 25 hours per week in sessions and 6 – 10 hours per week in home study.

IV.              Objectives

 

The certificate program (both modules) focuses on electronic and manual bookkeeping to increase your diversity.  The following skills are developed:

·         Introduction to MYOB, QuickBooks, and Caseware; proficiency in Simply Accounting and MS Excel for real-world computerized application. 

·         Analyzing and Recording Business Transactions

·         Preparing Worksheets and Financial Reports

·         Banking and Payroll procedures; Employee and Employer Taxes

·         Special Journals - Sales, Cash Receipts, Purchases and Cash Payments

·         Financial Statement analysis and decision making
